ISLAMABAD -- Heavy monsoon rains killed at least 54 people in eastern Pakistan in 24 hours, bringing the total rain-related deaths in the country to 178 over the past three weeks, officials said Thursday.

A broad area of low pressure near the Gulf Coast is creating disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This disturbance is forecast to continue sliding westward in Louisiana on Thursday before turning northward into the Mississippi valley.

Six tornadoes were reported from Wisconsin to Indiana on Wednesday, with the Wisconsin ones labeled as “large,” though no major damage or injuries have been reported.

Over the weekend, 6 to 10 inches of rain fell over central Texas, leading to more flooding including along the Llano, Lampasas and San Saba rivers.

Some flooding may have crept close to streets in Historic Ellicott City over the last few days, but it was nothing compared to the devastation Main Street has had in the past.

Ghana's cocoa regulator said on Tuesday that increased disease incidence caused by prolonged rainfall and not enough sunlight could lead to moderate production decline, after farmers called for state intervention to mitigate the impact of bad weather.

A National Weather Service advisory warned of another 2-4 inches of rain falling in the region − and isolated areas could see 9-12 inches.
