The responses to Zohran Mamdani’s showing in the New York City mayoral primary were the latest examples of how some G.O.P. lawmakers have grown more overt in using bigoted language and tropes.

The latest barrage has included comments from Republicans in Congress, who incorporated racist stereotypes on the presumptive Democratic nominee in the New York mayor’s race.

"These hateful, Islamophobic, and racist tropes have become so entrenched and normalized in our politics," the group said. "We know these attacks all too well."
