The Trump administration is planning to reinstall two Confederate monuments, following through on a push by President Donald Trump to restore statues that were removed in the wake of the George Floyd protests.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A statue of a Confederate general that was toppled by protesters in Washington in 2020 will be restored and replaced this fall, in line with President Donald Trump’s pushback on recent efforts to reframe America’s historical narrative.

Pike was commissioned in the Confederate army as a brigadier general, but his wartime career lasted less than two years. His men were accused of scalping Union troops, and he was eventually forced to resign. He received a reprieve from President Andrew Johnson and moved to Washington, D.C., where he died in 1891.
