Costa Rican forward Manfred Ugalde split two sets of Dominican defenders to find forward Josimar Alcócer for the game-winning goal Wednesday in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Dominican Republic.

Mexico held on for a narrow 3-2 victory over the Dominican Republic in its 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup opener. Mexico is currently at the top of Group A. Suriname and Costa Rica will play the second match in Group A on Sunday.

Their first showdown occurred on September 6, 2011, in Group 1 of the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The match at Estadio Panamericano in San Cristóbal ended in a 1-1 draw. Friso Mando gave Suriname the lead with a penalty in the 25th minute, but Erick Ozuna equalized for the Dominican Republic in the 68th.
