Alaska Air Group is giving its Tokyo flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines out of Seattle a big upgrade, with Hawaiian's Boeing 787 Dreamliner now slated for the route.

Brent Overbeek, chief revenue officer at Hawaiian Airlines, explained that the expanded winter capacity on select domestic routes is fueled by the strong demand that Hawaiian saw last year when it added flights over the same period. He says that booking levels for this year are already exceeding expectations:

With the deal, Alaska is picking up $1 billion in equity and $900 million in debt with Hawaiian Airlines. Minicucci said conversations on a price began early this year.
