George Glezmann, an American citizen who has spent more than two years in detention in Afghanistan was released on Thursday and is now on his way to the United States, a source with knowledge of the situation told CNN.

W ASHINGTON — An American man who was abducted more than two years ago while traveling through Afghanistan as a tourist has been released by the Taliban in a deal with the Trump administration that Qatari negotiators helped broker, the State Department said Thursday.

George Glezmann, a Delta Airlines mechanic detained by the Taliban during a trip to Afghanistan in 2022, was on his way back to the United States on Thursday, both Washington and Kabul confirmed.
