The Times of India is by far the country’s most trusted English news brand across media types, according to a Nielsen survey of 52 such brands, commissioned by the Times Group.
A TOI journalist investigated Mehta and exposed the scam in a brilliant example of courageous journalism. As a result, Mehta was arrested on November 9 and India’s most notorious stock market swindle came to an end. It was a victory for journalism and for India’s most trusted newspaper.
Recently, a study by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism declared TOI the most trusted news brand in India. It was an official validation of what we’ve always known in our hearts.

The Times of India has campaigned vigorously against the irresponsible use of social media, regularly exposing potentially lethal falsehoods. So whenever someone opens the TOI to check the veracity of a forwarded claim, that’s the biggest proof of our success.
The report created a major political scandal and led to questions in Parliament, a CBI inquiry and more than 40 FIRs. A large number of the allocations were cancelled and even ministers faced conviction. It was the ‘mother of all scams’ – brought to light by The Times of India.
